Museums & Sights
The numerous museums within the municipality allow visitors to get in touch with the local culture. The Agios Nikolaos Archaeological Museum, built in 1969, is considered as one of the most important museums in Crete. The Folk Museum is also located at the very heart of the city, next to lake Voulismeni. Among the many Folk Museums of the villages of Agios Nikolaos municipality the most important one is the Neapoli Folk Museum which occupies a historic building of the 19th century (1870).
The “Rodanthi Museum” of plants and herbs, located in Kritsa, is another interesting museum of the area, exhibiting rare plants and numerous herbs of Crete. The recently restored “House of Kritsotopoula”, a small Folk Museum about the village of Kritsa, is also worth visiting. Don’t miss the opportunity to learn about the customs and traditions of the area’s numerous settlements.
